7pm MST
My last concert of the year will be the film from the Ace of Spades concert in Sacramento. I saw a small clip of it and although I have heard the performance in person, I will be able to hear what the band is talking about between the songs, which I find interesting. The songs, of course, always bear repeating. And I got the VIP Afterparty as well, because I never meet an interview I didn't like. I am a bit in a quandary, however. I grew up in Arizona which, sensibly, didn't have daylight savings time. So every year, twice a year I stubbornly refuse to understand what time it is. I'm currently in Las Vegas for a "wedding" which turned into a "non-wedding family vacation instead". That's another story. So the streaming is at 7 pm MST. Daylight savings switched times yesterday and Nevada is PST. Doesn't this sound like, "Two trains are heading towards each other at two different speeds, how many apples will Bobby have if three are made into applesauce" math problem? Well, it's a problem for me, but I have three days to figure it out.
Speaking of songs and interviews, I had a lovely time listening to the Pandora's "Pop-Up: Seether" which has the band members introducing particular songs they picked to be played and why. I had to sign up for the Pandora app, which was probably the point. Why do I want to call Pandora, Pantera? Which was one of Dale's picks. Corey picked Take Me Away by Ayron Jones. Great choice! I so agree with you. I'll save this for the next post and go to the North/South America show which I watched on my laptop in a hotel room in Las Vegas.
Sara Tipton the admin on the Seether Facebook page wrote:
"Hey everyone!!! Who saw last night's Vicennial concert? What did you think of it? I loved it, but I do wish it was a bit longer. Hopefully the merch will ship quickly to everyone who ordered!"
I answered there, but I noticed several people commented that they either did not opt for the Q&A or skipped it. For those who would like some highlights, I'll put mine here and I invite anyone else to share as well and I'll put those in anonymously or with whatever name you'd like on your contribution.
The Q and A Aftershow Highlights
The scene: based on the background, an acoustic version of Dangerous, the band was in their home studios/music rooms. Corey in his red music room, John in front of his drum set in the room painted cream or off-white and Shaun and Dale at Dale's house in the blue room. The countdown to the last few seconds and three windows appeared with Corey in the upper left, John in the upper right and Shaun and Dale below them in the middle. On the side, the fans were typing away and questions and comments were coming in so fast it was impossible to read them quickly enough to keep up. I appreciated the love and warmth of the comments, and the humor, not to mention the manners shown by those contributing by the respectful communication.
*Shaun and Jordan had been visiting Dale and Michelle for two (weeks?). Michelle (Ms. Stewart), introduced by Shaun as "The Preggo" [o.k. Shaun, I'll give you a pass on that this time] as she rewarded us with a side view of her gracefully rounded figure. She is due in about 8 weeks (early-middle of January?). Jordan (Ms. Welgemoed) and Ms. Stewart have evidently been discussing the vagaries of breastfeeding since the men commented on a lot of nipple discussion during the visit. Sore nipples, leaking nipples, etc. Perhaps more than the guys wanted to know. One fan quipped "Nipplegate 2021".
* Somehow a discussion of Shaun's jewelry making was brought up and I think he now has about 25 orders for jewelry. Dale said he'd have to quit the band to be able to fill all the orders. I hope he knows what he's getting into.
*Shaun was wearing a Seether cap and when he flipped it around, a fan noticed and asked if he'd shaved his hair. He confirmed this and said he "started over" about every 8-10 years by buzz cutting it. [You know the Victorians made jewelry woven out of loved ones' hair? You could have added "Shaun's Hair Jewelry" to the merch and made a mint]. Ms. Welgemoed stopped in, peered at the screen and noticed that Corey had gotten his hair cut also. [More hair jewelry merch, guys]. Of course that leaves John as the odd-long-haired-man-out, which the other three had to comment on. Shaun said his little girl brought him "Daddy's hair ties" and he had to tell her that Daddy no longer needed his hair ties as he was now, "Fuzzy like a Teddy Bear."
*O.K. did I hear right that Corey said he got his eyes tattooed in his early days?
*Several of us tried to start an unconfirmed rumor that the Ace of Spades, Sacramento concert was coming out on DVD, maybe, perhaps. If wishing hard for something would make it true, we'd be waiting for delivery right now.
*John confirmed he has two sons that are also musicians. I enjoy watching him talk about his children. He is so proud of them. They all have children, Dale imminently so. My favorite part of the interview about the new Wasteland music video was the part when you can hear a little person off camera say, "Mama" and all four look up and grace us with a bevy of "Daddy smiles".
*Triangle guy. I missed some of this, but I gather one fan offered to play the triangle in the band. If you are triangle guy, tell us your story.
*As Laurie D. mentioned on the Facebook page, Shaun and Dale started singing Ice, Ice Baby with Corey supplying the 1980's style DJ vinyl record turntable action until Jordan asks them to quiet down as she just put the baby to bed. [Did you know that the definition of Ice Baby is used as a term for a baby born from a frozen human egg? Did you even want to know that? The Internet is so dang fun.]
What Else Guys?
*I remembered something as I was going down the beer aisle at the grocery store. Drink of choice. For Dale it was Jameson (Whiskey). Corey mentioned Stella Artois, a lager. I had to look it up, not being familiar with the name. Shaun has talked about Vodka in the past. Stoli? I believe John no longer imbibes. If we go retro, back to South Africa, Saron Gas [Shaun, Dale and Dave Cohoe] is pictured drinking Black Label. Fast forward to 2006 [One Cold Night] and the guys are drinking some kind of beer. Shaun mentions Olde English but the labels are fuzzed out, so I don't have confirmation. Too much trivia? Hard cheese. That's what you get with me. Agonizingly detailed trivia.
*One more. Shaun noticed that the lighting really showed off the gray in his beard. Dale commiserated. Well guys, my hair grayed up the sides like the Bride of Frankenstein. Tried for a band member of Seether look, but I just can't get the beard right.
EM
P.S. Bought a six pack of bottles of Stella Artois to try. Tastes like beer. I could tell it was really good beer, cause I had to dig through the silverware drawer to find a bottle opener. Now if Corey happens to stop by my house, I have something to offer him to drink. :)
