March 10, 2021 Filling Negative Spaces, part 1 and August 22 update

Just when I think, "This is the best Seether album, ever", I listen to the next one.  Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces is, again, the best Seether album ever.  There is so much pain in the lyrics and in Shaun's vocals that some of the songs are difficult to listen to.  That may be hindsight.  The album, dedicated to Shaun's brother Eugene, was completed before Eugene's death.  Like the music and lyrics on their most recent album, Si Vis Pacem Parabellum which seemed to have a foreshadowing of 2020 even though the recording was finished before we were all sent home, Negative Spaces seem to foreshadow his brother's death.  Although listening to the lyrics, it seems Shaun is talking about himself more often than not.   1) Like Suicide .  The lyrics here are somewhat ambivalent, regret and frustration, anger and pain.  Is she really suicidal or just likes talking about it to torture her loved ones. Not many people are like that but t...

March 7, 2021 Holding Onto Posts Better Left to Fray

I was poised to hotly rebuke a post on the Facebook Seether fan page, when I realized the post was 6 years old.  Probably too late to put my two cents in at this point.  But not here.  Before I let these posts go (my apologies to Seether for parodying their album title) I am going to respond to the posts I find most irritating, from mildly unrealistic to NYFB [not your fuckin' business].  There are lots of Facebook posts.  Comments on You Tube videos.  Comments on Reddit.  So here we go. March 1, 2021 and October 3 update Gasoline - Report Card

Image
Well, I tuned the guitar down a step but it didn't exactly sound like what the You Tube instructor was showing me.  Went to a site that had the tabs down at the bottom.  First snag, I need a quick lesson in tabs.  That was very interesting.  I've encountered tablature in the far distant past as it turned out.  I went to the School of Rock website https://www.schoolofrock.com/resources/guitar/reading-guitar-tabs-for-beginners and learned a whole lot more.  Muting, palm muting, bending strings, hammer notes, sliding notes, strumming; there is a whole 'nother world out there. Well armed, I went back to the tabs for Gasoline.  Here is my report card: _______________________________________________________________________________ Course:      GASOLINE 101 Student: EM 1. Playing on Steel Strings    B-  Student is able to create audible notes without crying or bleeding on the instrument. 2. Learning Gasoline  ...
