February 3, 2021 Isolate and Medicate, part 2 continued, the trip back home and August 22 update

Bonus tracks on Isolate and Medicate.

#11 Turn Around.  Strong musical sound with menacing lyrics.  An almost Country feel until the instrumental which is Seether heavy hitting guitar-bass-drums.  If someone started singing this to me, I'd definitely find an exit.  O.K., I might think about it for a second.

#12 Burn the World.  Starts with a rather creepy riff.  I quite like it.  Creepy and sexy at the same time.  Lyrics sound pissed off.  I love the quick stop between the end of the chorus,  "Don't let the world burn." and the start of the second verse, "I'll never belong to." This is why Seether's music is so interesting to listen to.  The decisions they make about the music keeps it interesting.  Decisions on how to start and end a song.  How spare or full the music is in different sections.

#13 Goodbye Tonight - Seether & Van Coke Kartel.  There is an interview with Seether and Van Coke Kartel in South Africa about the Afrikaans version of  Goodbye Tonight from 2013.  5FM MashLab #8: Seether & Van Coke Kartel.  This is well worth listening to in either language.  I just don't understand any of lyrics in Afrikaans, of course, but the alternate language just gives my ears something extra to chew on.  No idea how accurate the translation is from Afrikaans to English or which was first and which was  the translation.  The chorus in English is, "And if I die tonight, would it all make sense, would it all make sense.  And if I die tonight would the wind chip away at my soul forever."  That is lyrical beauty.  I always hoped when I die I can ask the thousands of questions I have about the world.  Maybe get answers in another language which, being dead, I will understand.

#14 Weak. What can I say about this one.  An incredible blend of perfect lyrics and bounteous Seether music.  Putting into words what I and a lot of other people feel like.  Bass and drums with guitar and something else.  What is that sound at the beginning?  Thank you all for this one.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That's the end of Isolate and Medicate.  Favorite song, if I must choose, is Words As Weapons, since it brought me here and started me on this journey.  Save Today because it fills my soul and gives me hope. Keep the Dogs at Bay because I'm trying to do that.

I've been looking at the variety of sources for information about Seether, YouTube for recordings of interviews and concerts, other sites like the official www.seether.com site as well as fan sites, https://seetherblog.wordpress.com/ which still has some links, but has lost others.  I'm sad I'm too late to help with that one.  Pleased to get accepted into a couple of Seether groups on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/702114526581098/members  https://www.facebook.com/groups/621307522129835 I don't know if all fan sites are like these ones, the last fan club I remember, you sent a letter in the mail to join, [yes, with a stamp on it]  but amongst the inevitable and I must admit, well deserved, gushing about how awesome Seether is and how hot Shaun, Dale and John are, the posts are from a group of generous, supportive and loving people.  The times someone talks about a Seether song saving their life or getting them through a bad time, and the support of the other members, is overwhelming.  The group has responded to Shaun's song lyrics which are very personal and incredibly open.  They are like a friend offering you a hand when you're down and saying, I feel like that, too.  I'm a little scared for him, laying himself out like that but there are multitudes of people that have found a voice through his words.

"his life's buttons have been left undone, and part of his soul is hanging out." (Long poem of loneliness from Lean Against This Late Hour by Garous Abdolmalekian).
